Lifestyle newborn portraits bring me great joy as I photograph clients in their homes. This gives their photographs a personal touch.
How do you do a lifestyle baby photo shoot?
In the early stages of planning a session with our clients we discuss their preferred location. If they would like to use their home for their session I ask them some questions to be sure their space would be ideal.
First, I ask questions surrounding the style of their home. Are your walls a light, neutral color? Is your decor minimalistic and free from clutter or anything that would be distracting to the photos? Gray and white walls are ideal as they won’t have an unwanted color that will cast onto the subjects and create less desirable skin tones.
Next, I ask about the lighting. Do you have have large windows with plenty of natural light? What direction do your windows face? This is important because I photograph primarily with natural light. If we are photographing in the morning we need to make sure we don’t have too much harsh light pouring through.

How to prepare for lifestyle newborn portraits
Clients can provide pictures of the rooms that would be most ideal. I encourage them to observe the lighting in those rooms throughout the day when it’s both sunny and cloudy out.
