Maine Vacation Family Portraits

While we were planning our family vacation to Maine I knew it would be a great time to photograph our own family portraits. I wasn’t sure exactly where we would be photographing, so we blocked out two potential dates on our itinerary to make it happen. While we were away Abby came down with a double ear infection and swimmers ear, so we had to be a bit more flexible with our plans. The last thing I wanted was for my child to have photos taken when she was feeling miserable.

Originally, I thought we might do our portraits in Acadia National Park surrounded by the mountains, ocean and trees, but since that part of the trip was in the beginning of the week we decided to hold off. After spending 5 days at Acadia, we drove down to Ogunquit for the remainder of our trip. We arrived midday and walked the ocean path. It was calm, peaceful and so beautiful that I knew that was where I wanted our pictures to be. The only problem was that we didn’t have another evening to take them. It would have to be an early morning shoot to avoid the direct sun.

With a little sweet talk, I was able to convince the kids that waking up early the last day of our vacation would be completely worth it in order to give mom the family photos she was hoping for. We ended up spending an hour with our toes dipped in the water, enjoying the empty beach and morning sun. With no source of shade, we had to be mindful of harsh shadows being casted from one another. Overall, I was pleased with our trusty tripod and remote trigger setup. Having professional family photos was the icing on top of an already amazing vacation!
