The beach is one of our favorite locations to photograph maternity and family sessions. Fairfield County, CT beach photography has a lot to offer and will make your portrait session one you’ll always remember. Here are just a few of the many reasons why we choose to photograph at the beach.

Connection

Couples and families are able to relax as they walk barefoot on the sand, while holding hands, looking at each other or out across the water. It’s an easy place to feel comfortable, loosen up and look natural in front of the camera.

Simplicity

There is nothing like having a gorgeous, simplistic backdrop as the open sky above the ocean for your Fairfield County beach photography session. I recently read a study that has shown being in or around water reduces anxiety. I have seen this to be true as I photograph families with young children who are unsure about having their pictures taken. Often, I direct families and couples to face the water while they embrace. This creates a simple, yet beautiful image filled with emotion.

Interaction

We love how the beach creates organic moments for the families we photograph. Parents and children can explore the shore, feel the water, sand, shells and rocks and enjoy their time together. It allows for a natural interaction to take place, which is wonderful for candid moments that aren’t posed.

Fun

The wide open space is great for parents to play tag, ring around the rosie or even tickle their children. These fun games create laughter and authentic moments that help tell a story. It’s also a great location to bring pets into family and maternity portraits.

Engagement

With the variety of backdrops Fairfield County, CT beaches provide, parents are able to keep children entertained and engaged during their family portraits. If kids are fussy or need a change of scenery it’s not a problem to take a little walk and explore another area of the beach. Parents feel more relaxed and the time always seems to fly by.
